Swimming Pool |
In
1994 the voters of the City of Creighton approved a 1% city sales
tax with 40% of this tax to be used for the construction, maintenance
and support of the Municipal Swimming Pool. The existing pool was
built in the late 1950's.
The first phase of the pool renovation project was completed in 1996
when a new filter system was installed.
In the fall of 2001, the City began a complete renovation project
on the pool. This renovation included a new wading pool and bathhouse,
replacing the walls of the pool, a new gutter system, deck, fencing
and lights. Christiansen Construction Co. was able to complete the
project in May of 2002 and the renovated pool opened on June 1, 2002.
This project has been completely financed with city sales tax money. |

Creighton Area
Ruritan had several fund raisers and were able to purchase a slide
for the pool. This slide was installed the middle of June and has
been a great addition to the pool. Many Creighton residents have
enjoyed the new pool and, attendance records show that many "out-of-towners"
have also utilized the renovated facility.

| Elizabeth's
Garden |
|
In 1999,
a dream became reality when a garden was created for the City of
Creighton. For along time, residents of the Creighton Care Center
adn their families had commented that they view from their windows
was rather plain. Helen Borgmann, the daughter of resident Elizabeth
Rothenberger, shared this opinion, and approached the Creighton
Area Health Services Auxiliary about the possibility of creating
a garden for the residents of the Care Centre and the city of Creighton
to enjoy. Not long after, planning began.
|
|
|
The project was financed largely by a generous donation from a benefactor,
Betty Radosti, given in memory of her sister, an avid gardener.
Other donations and help from many volunteers advanced the project
quickly, and soon it was time to choose a name for the completed
garden.
It was finally
decided that the new garden would be known as Elizabeth's Garden,
named for the benefactor, Betty Radosti, and for Helen Borgmann's
mother Elizabeth Rothenberger. What follows is a description of
Elizabeth's Garden.
|
 |
As you
step through the gate in the vinyl fence surrounding this
oasis, you will immediately recognize the smell of fresh flowers.
Large trees provide shade as you stroll through Elizabeth's
Garden. The wide, curving walks wind throughout the garden,
providing opportunities to get a closer look at the many beautiful
annuals and perennials spread throughout the area. Dwarf trees,
shrubs, roses, vines, and ornamental grasses enhance the butterfly
sculpture. Artifacts of a bygone era accent the natural beauty
of the plantings, and carefully placed rocks complete the
effect.
|
|
Guests can relax on one of the comfortable benches and picnic tables
or stop in the gazebo, located in the center of the garden. A raised
planter even gives Care Centre residents the chance to take part in
caring for the flowers and plants.Visitors
and citizens of Creighton are welcome in this tranquill haven, found
at the Creighton Care Centre, next to the hospital on the west end
of town. We cordially invite you to come share this beautiful place
with us! |
| Santa Land |
|
SantaLand is
Creighton's Annual Christmas light display, located in Bruce Park
during the month of December. In addition to a large number of outdoor
displays, SantaLand also houses Santa's Workshop, where sixteen
of Santa's motorized elves can be seen hard at work. Visitors can
even talk with Santa himself, and enjoy refreshments provided by
local businesses.
The outdoor
and workshop displays were donated to the City of Creighton in 1995
by local residents. Since the original donation, SantaLand has been
set up and maintained by the Creighton Area Chamber of Commerce
and the Creighton Area Ruritan Club, with the help of many other
organizations and individuals. Setup usually begins the first weekend
in November, with much of the work done by volunteers aged anywhere
form 5 to 82. In all, over 2,000 hours of volunteer work come together
to make SantaLand a reality.
General operating
costs and improvements to SantaLand are funded substantially by
the donations of organizations, individuals, and visitors. Donations
of any amount are graciously accepted, and will help make sure that
others will be able to enjoy SantaLand for many years to come.
